Dinner and Bar ($5-$9 tapas, $6-$14 per entree)

Mambo Room is a Latin bar and grill that specializes in tapas. We went there around 6:30 on Friday night and the restaurant was practically empty. A half an hour later and they were getting pretty busy. We were seated promptly, but it took about 10 minutes before we received water or even saw the waitress. Once she did get to the table she was as nice as can be. Chris ordered a margarita since it was made with a house made margarita mix, 1800 tequila, and Grand Marnier, it was very well made. We began by ordering two tapas, the queso de cabra, which is baked goat cheese on a basil tomato sauce, and garlic plantains. If you don’t like too much garlic, we suggest not ordering the plantains, but the mix of the sweet plantains and the garlic was very intriguing and definitely excited our palates. We also ordered the shrimp ceviche, which was “cooked” perfectly, and the Acapulco stuffed pepper, which was a chef’s special and was stuffed with shrimp and lump crab meat! The food was so delicious that we decided to order a couple more tapas. We tried the Mansana tilapia, which was drizzled with a delicious mango brandy sauce, as well as the stuffed portabella mushroom, which was baked and served with a generous helping of caramelized onions and melted cheese. The food was not only good, but it was brought out two at a time and we were never left waiting for the next course. If you’re looking for a tasty Latin dessert, however, don’t bother. They don’t have a dessert menu and they only offer three dreary options for after dinner. On a good note though, they have live music certain days and they also have a bar so they are open late especially on the weekend.
